Overview
Setting up a third-party login gives your Bench bookkeeping team view-only access to your TD Business Direct Online Banking Portal. This allows your bookkeeper to download statements and transaction details on your behalf so you don't have to manually pull and upload them each month.
What You'll Need
1. Login access with admin/owner-levelpermissions
2. The email address provided by yourbookkeeper (formatted as thirdpartylogins+business.name@bench.co)
Note: Sometimes they might require additionalinformation like EIN, 2FA, etc.

- Log into TD BusinessDirect / Web Business Banking.
- Navigate to:
Administration → Add/Modify/Delete User - Click Add User.
- Enter the user details:
- User ID: bench[benchID]
- First Name: Bench
- Last Name: Accounting
- Email/contact information (if required)
- Assign the appropriate service access rights.
- For bookkeeping access, select view-only or limited account access permissions where available.
- Avoid assigning payment, transfer, wire, or administration privileges.
- If prompted, select:
- “Custom” access rights
- Account inquiry/reporting access only
- Review the permissions carefully and click:
Save & Continue or Done - If your company uses dual approval for administration changes, a second administrator may need to approve the new user before access becomes active.
- Message your bookkeeper to let them know this has been completed as the email invite link is not a monitored email.
What To Expect After Setup
After setup is complete, please send us:
- confirmation that the user has been approved (if applicable)
TD may require a second administrator approval before access becomes active. Once approved, we will complete the initial login and confirm successful access.
Troubleshooting
- My bookkeeper says they can't log in. The user may still require administrator approval, the User ID/password may be incorrect, or MFA setup may not be completed yet.
- My bookkeeper can log in but can’t see accounts? The user likely was not assigned account access permissions during setup.
- User ID not accepted? TD may require User IDs to be 5–8 characters and unavailable IDs cannot be reused.
- Temporary password not working? Try manually typing the password; if expired, an administrator may need to reset it.
- “Add User” button missing? Only users with administrative permissions can create new users.
- User has too much access? Review permissions and remove payment, transfer, wire, and admin rights before saving.
- Changes not taking effect? Some TD business profiles require a second administrator approval before access becomes active.
