Overview

Setting up a third-party login gives your Bench bookkeeping team view-only access to your Silicon Valley Bank Portal. This allows your bookkeeper to download statements and transaction details on your behalf so you don't have to manually pull and upload them each month.

What You'll Need

1. Login access with admin/owner-levelpermissions

2. The email address for the Third Party Login. This will be formatted as thirdpartylogins+business.name@bench.co

Note: Sometimes they might require additional information like EIN, 2FA, etc.

Setup Instructions

  1. Log in to Silicon Valley Bank online banking.
  2. Navigate to Administration (or select your profile menu in the upper-right corner and choose Users), then select Add User or Create New User From Scratch.
  3. Enter the following user information:
    • User ID: bench[clientID]
    • First Name: Bench
    • Last Name: Accounting
    • Title: Bookkeeper
    • Email: OS/AA@bench.co
    • Phone Number: OS/AA phone number
  4. For access level/security settings:
    • Create the user as a standard user (not a System Administrator/CSA).
    • Do not grant payment approval or money movement permissions.
  5. In the Account, Function and Data Service Entitlements section:
    • Select Custom entitlements.
    • Grant view-only access to:
      • Account Reporting
      • Statements
      • Transaction/history viewing (if needed for bookkeeping)
    • Do not grant ACH, wire, transfer, payment creation, or approval permissions.
  6. Click Save or Save and Continue and complete any remaining entitlement setup screens.
  7. If prompted, complete any required secondary administrator approval process.
  8. Message your bookkeeper to let them know this has been completed as the email invite link is not a monitored email.

What To Expect After Setup

After the user is created, SVB may send activation or MFA setup instructions to the email address entered above. Some accounts also require a second administrator to approve the new user before access becomes active.

Once activated, Bench will have view-only access for reporting and bookkeeping purposes and will not be able to move funds or approve transactions.

Troubleshooting

  • Some SVB accounts require a second administrator to approve new users before access becomes active.
  • If Bench cannot see accounts or statements, verify that the user was assigned to all relevant accounts and granted view-only permissions for Account Reporting and Statements.
  • If the screens look different than these instructions, look for menus labeled Administration, Users, User Management, or Entitlements.
  • For security purposes, do not grant ACH, wire, payment approval, or administrator permissions.
  • I'm not sure what to use for the email address. Replace "your.business.name" with your actual business name, no spaces. For example, if your business is Maple Goods, the email would be thirdpartylogins+maple.goods@bench.co. Your bookkeeper can confirm the exact format
