Overview

To access your PayPal transaction data and reports, we'll need you to add us as a user on your account with reporting permissions. This gives us view-only access to your account activity — we won't be able to make payments or changes. Setup takes about 5–10 minutes.

What You'll Need

  • A PayPal Business account. This setup is not available on Personal accounts. If you're on a Personal account, you'll need to upgrade first by going to Profile → Settings.
  • Access to your PayPal account with permissions to manage users
  • Your Bench ID — this is the number that appears after /client/ in your browser's address bar when you're logged into Bench. For example, if your URL is app.bench.co/client/33248/..., your Bench ID is 33248. If you're unsure, your bookkeeper can provide it.

Setup Instructions

  1. Log into your PayPal account.
  2. Click your Profile icon in the top right corner.
  3. Click Account Settings. You should land on the Account Access tab.
  4. Next to Manage Users, click Update.
  5. Click Add User.
  6. Enter the following information:
    • First Name: Bench
    • Last Name: Accounting
    • Email: thirdpartylogins@bench.co
    • UserID: bench*(your Bench ID)* — for example, bench33248
    • Phone Type: Mobile
    • Area Code: +1 United States
    • Phone: 6504660173
  7. Click Continue. On the permissions page, select Access Reports only. (Note: you may need to scroll down — don't select "Access User Audit Reports," which appears nearby.)
  8. Click Continue, then Done.

What To Expect After Setup

Once you've completed the steps above, our team will finalize the user setup on our end — typically within one business day. No further action is needed from you.

Troubleshooting

  • I don't see "Manage Users" under Account Settings. This feature is only available on PayPal Business accounts. If you're on a Personal account, you'll need to upgrade first: go to Profile → Settings and follow the prompts to switch to a Business account.
  • I can't find "Access Reports" in the permissions list. It may not be at the top — scroll through the full list. Make sure you're selecting Access Reports, not "Access User Audit Reports," which is a different permission.
  • I have a PayPal Credit card I'd like us to have access to. PayPal Credit may need to be linked to your main PayPal account first. Let your bookkeeper know and they can walk you through it.
  • I'm not sure whether my account is Business or Personal. When you log in, a Business account will typically show business tools and options in the dashboard. If you're still unsure, your bookkeeper can help you check.
