American Express

Overview

To download your American Express statements, we'll need you to add us as an account manager with limited access. This lets us view your account activity without the ability to make changes or transactions. Setup takes about 5 minutes.

What You'll Need

  • Access to your American Express online account
  • Your account PIN (you may be prompted to enter it during setup)
  • A phone or email on file with Amex for two-step verification, if enabled
  • Setup Instructions

    1. Log into your Amex account

    2. Click ‘Account Manager’ in the top menu bar

    3. Click ‘Manage Other Users’

    4. Click 'Add or Remove Account Managers'

    5. Enter your PIN and complete the two-step verification, if required

    6. Select ‘Limited Access’ for the Access Level

    7. Enter the following information:

    First Name: Bench

    Last Name: Accountant

    Email Address: thirdpartylogins+business.name@bench.co

    8. Select any additional cards that we need access to

    9 . Send Invite

    What To Expect After Setup

Once you send the invitation, our team will receive and accept it — typically within one business day. You'll see Bench Accountant listed under your Account Managers once we've accepted. We'll only have view-level access and cannot make purchases, payments, or account changes.

    Troubleshooting

  • I don't see "Account Manager" in the top menu.
This option may only be available to the primary cardholder. If you're an additional cardholder, the primary account holder will need to complete this setup.
  • I'm being asked for a PIN I don't recognize.
This is the PIN associated with your Amex account, not your card's transaction PIN. If you've forgotten it, you can reset it through Amex customer service or your account settings.
  • I forgot to add one of my cards during setup.
You can go back to Account Manager → Manage Other Users and edit the Bench Accountant user to add additional cards.
  • The invitation hasn't been accepted yet.
Allow up to one business day. If it's been longer, reach out to your bookkeeper so we can look into it.
