Having trouble logging in to your Bench account? Most login issues have a quick fix. Try the steps below, and if you're still stuck, your Bench Team is here to help.
The page keeps refreshing or won't load
If the login page keeps reloading or gets stuck, try these steps:
- Go directly to bench.co/login rather than using a bookmark or a link from an email
- Use an up-to-date version of Google Chrome for the best experience—you can download it at google.com/chrome if needed
- Clear your browser cookies for Bench by navigating to bench.co, right-clicking anywhere on the page, selecting "Inspect," then going to the Application tab → Cookies → right-click bench.co → Clear
"Wrong email or password" even though you're sure they're correct
This usually means one of two things:
- You're using a different email than what's on your Bench account. Double-check which email address is associated with your account. If you have multiple email addresses, try each one.
- You recently changed your email. If you updated your email in your Bench account settings, you'll need to reset your password. This creates new login credentials for your updated email. Go to bench.co/login, click Forgot your password?, and enter your current email address.
- Your user was recently created. If your bookkeeper recently created a new user for your account, you'll need to reset your password. This creates new login credentials for the user. Go to bench.co/login, click Forgot your password?, and enter your current email address.
You haven't received the password reset email
Password reset emails can sometimes take a few minutes to arrive. While you wait:
- Check your spam or junk folder
- Make sure you entered the email address that's currently associated with your Bench account
- If it's been more than a few minutes and you still don't see it, reach out to your bookkeeper through your message feed
Your account has been locked
After several unsuccessful login attempts, your account may be temporarily locked for security reasons. You'll see a message that says "Due to security reasons, we have blocked access to the account."
Don't worry—check your email for a message from Bench with a link to unblock your account. Click the link, then head back to bench.co/login to try again.
MFA codes aren't working
If you have multi-factor authentication (MFA) enabled and your codes aren't being accepted:
- Using an authenticator app? Make sure you're checking the correct app (such as Google Authenticator or Authy) and that the code hasn't expired—they refresh every 30 seconds.
- Using SMS? Confirm the last four digits of the phone number shown on the login screen match your current number. If they don't, or if texts aren't coming through, reach out to your bookkeeper.
If you're still having trouble with MFA, your bookkeeper can submit a request to have it reset for you.
Still stuck?
If none of the above solved your issue, reach out to your bookkeeper through your message feed and they'll get you sorted out. Don't have access to the message feed? Contact client.care@bench.co, or respond to any email from bench with the subject line "Your team is talking to you". This will put your response into the message feed.
