Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security to your Bench account. When MFA is enabled, you'll enter a one-time code each time you log in with your password—so even if someone has your password, they won't be able to access your account without that code.
How to request MFA
MFA is enabled by our support team. To request it:
- Log in to your Bench account and open your message feed
- Send a message to your bookkeeper requesting MFA be added to your account
- Your bookkeeper will submit the request to our support team on your behalf
- Once your request is processed, you'll receive an enrollment email with instructions to set up MFA
Setting up MFA
When you receive your enrollment email, you'll choose how you'd like to receive your verification codes:
- Text message (SMS) – Codes are sent to your phone via text
- Authenticator app – Use an app like Google Authenticator or Authy to generate codes
Follow the prompts in the enrollment email to complete your setup.
What to expect after MFA is enabled
When you log in with your email and password, you'll be prompted to enter a verification code from your chosen method. If you log in using a magic link, you won't need to enter a code—the magic link already verifies your identity through your email.
